Mounjaro 101
How does Mounjaro® work for weight loss?
Mounjaro contains tirzepatide, which is a dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist. That means it mimics two natural hormones that help regulate blood sugar, appetite, and digestion. By slowing gastric emptying and increasing feelings of fullness, Mounjaro helps reduce food intake and support weight loss.
You may be eligible for Mounjaro if your BMI is 30 or above, or 27+ with a weight-related health condition (such as high blood pressure or PCOS). You can speak to a Juniper prescriber by clicking the ‘Am I eligible?’ button to find the right treatment for you.
How soon will I see results with Mounjaro®?
On average, you can expect to lose between 5-10% at 3 months, 10-15% at 6 months and 15-20% at 12 months. It’s important to keep in mind that these weight loss rates have been carefully estimated based on published data that show weight loss outcomes at 72 weeks⁴
.Juniper members lose 40% more weight after 16 weeks than clinical trials of the medication show⁵. This means you’ll get better results sooner with Juniper’s support.
Is Mounjaro® safe?
When prescribed appropriately and monitored by a healthcare professional, Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is considered safe and effective for many people.Like all medicines, it can cause side effects, most commonly nausea, diarrhea, constipation, or decreased appetite — especially when you’re first starting or increasing the dose. These effects are usually mild and improve over time.
More serious risks are rare but can include pancreatitis or gallbladder issues. Your prescriber will review your medical history, current medications, and risk factors to make sure Mounjaro is a safe option for you.
Clinical trials (such as the SURMOUNT-1 study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2022) have shown that tirzepatide is both effective and well-tolerated for most participants.
With Juniper, you’re not on your own — our care team provides regular check-ins, dose adjustments, and support for side effects to ensure you’re safe and comfortable throughout your treatment.
What are the side effects of Mounjaro?
Common side effects include nausea, diarrhoea, decreased appetite, vomiting, constipation, and indigestion. These often improve over time. Your Juniper membership includes unlimited access to a UK-registered prescriber who is on hand to monitor symptoms, side effects and weight plateaus, plus answer any questions you have about the medication.
More serious but rare side effects may include pancreatitis, gallbladder issues, or allergic reactions.
Always report any concerning symptoms to your GP.
How do I know if I’m eligible for Mounjaro?
You may be eligible for Mounjaro if you meet certain health criteria. In general, this includes: A BMI of 30 or above, or
A BMI of 27 or above with a weight-related health condition (such as high blood pressure, sleep apnoea, or PCOS).
At Juniper, eligibility is assessed by a qualified prescriber, who will look at your full health history, current medications, and lifestyle factors before recommending treatment.
