Mounjaro price
changes explained

Why has the price of Mounjaro changed?
Eli Lilly, the manufacturer of Mounjaro, has increased the price of all dose strengths in the UK to align with prices across mainland Europe. This change means that in the UK, Wegovy is now a more cost-effective GLP-1 treatment option for weight management.
We know changes like this can feel unexpected and can lead to frustration. But our priority is to help you continue your weight loss journey with minimal disruption and find the treatment that best supports your health goals and fits your lifestyle.
I can’t afford Mounjaro at the new price. Can I switch to another medication?
Yes. With the recent price increase for Mounjaro, Wegovy has become the more cost-effective option for weight loss and obesity management with prices starting from £85.00 month.
Switching medications is a normal and common occurrence — it's something medical professionals do regularly for conditions like high blood pressure or high cholesterol, whether it's to reduce side effects or lower costs. We'll work with you to find the treatment that's right for your needs, budget and goals.
Why are you recommending switching from Mounjaro to Wegovy?
Our number one priority is helping you continue your weight loss journey with a little disruption as possible. We're only recommending a switch if Mounjaro's new price makes it difficult for you to continue treatment. If it's still viable for you and you're doing well on it, we'd encourage you to stay on your current plan.
For those who need a more cost-effective option, Wegovy offers similar weight-loss results and some additional benefits, including support for heart health. If you choose to switch, our clinicians will make sure the change is safe, smooth, and tailored to you. That way, you can keep moving towards your health goals with minimal disruption.
Is Wegovy as effective as Mounjaro in the long term?
Mounjaro currently shows greater average weight loss in clinical trials, and as of July 2025, it remains the most effective medication available for weight management.
That said, Wegovy is still highly effective and delivers meaningful, lasting results. At the current maximum dose (2.4 mg), studies show people lose around 15% of their body weight on average over 68 weeks — with 10.3% loss at 6 months. This is far more than many achieve through lifestyle changes or older medications alone.
Later this year, a higher-strength Wegovy (7.2 mg) will become available. In clinical trials, people taking this dose lost an average of 21% of their body weight, with about one-third losing 25% or more. Side effects were similar to those seen at the 2.4 mg dose.
Wegovy also offers other benefits, including support for heart health, no impact on oral contraceptive effectiveness, and a lower cost than Mounjaro.
Will I experience the same side effects on Wegovy as I did on Mounjaro?
Wegovy and Mounjaro work in similar ways, so they can cause similar side effects. If you've been tolerating Mounjaro well, you're less likely to experience new or increased side effects when switching to an equivalent Wegovy dose.
The most common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, and stomach pain. Wegovy may also cause fatigue or headaches in some people. These symptoms are often mild and temporary, and can sometimes be linked to dehydration or not eating enough nutrient-rich foods.
Our clinical team will create a personalised transition plan to help you move to Wegovy with equivalent efficacy and minimal risk of side effects.

Could my weight plateau or increase when I switch?
Weight gain is unlikely during a medication switch, but it's not impossible. Some people notice a brief slowdown in their weight loss, while others continue losing weight. And some people even see progress pick up again after a few weeks. The best way to keep things moving in the right direction is to stick closely to your weekly injection schedule.
Will I still get support with Wegovy?
Yes. Our clinically led team will guide you through the switch to Wegovy as safely and seamlessly as possible. We'll check in with you monthly by email to track your progress, and you can contact us with questions at any time. You'll also have access to our Weight Loss Health Guide throughout your weight loss journey, with practical tips, injection videos, and advice for managing side effects.
Will I have to start over at the lowest dose of Wegovy?
Not always. Your starting dose will depend on your current Mounjaro dose and how long you've been using it. We'll guide you through a personalised transition plan.
In some cases, we may recommend a lower starting dose to maximise comfort and minimise side effects during the switch. This isn't a step backwards — it's a clinically safe way to help your body adjust while keeping progress on track.
Our aim is always steady, sustainable weight loss without compromising tolerability.
