What is Mounjaro®?
Mounjaro® KwikPen is a prescription medication licensed for weight loss in the UK. Mounjaro® (tirzepatide) is prescribed to support weight loss in people living with obesity or overweight and related health conditions, as well as to help manage type 2 diabetes. It’s one of the most effective weight loss medications currently available.
How do I use Mounjaro® pens?
Mounjaro® is a once-weekly injection that’s given in the arm, leg or abdomen. It uses a very small, fine needle for a near-painless injection just below the surface of the skin. The Mounjaro® pen comes with clear instructions for use. It has a simple dial in order to deliver the right amount of medication for your treatment stage. Once you’ve had the injection, remove and dispose of the needle in a sharps bin. Replace the cap and store as instructed.
What are the potential side effects of Mounjaro®?
Common side effects include nausea, diarrhoea, decreased appetite, vomiting, constipation, and indigestion. These often improve over time. More serious but rare side effects may include pancreatitis, gallbladder issues, or allergic reactions. Always report any concerning symptoms to your GP.
How effective is Mounjaro®?
In clinical trials, Mounjaro® has shown significant weight loss results, studies show people lose up to 21.5% of their body weight in a year when used alongside lifestyle changes. It’s currently one of the most effective medications available for weight loss and type 2 diabetes management.
What is the dosage and how should Mounjaro® be stored?
Mounjaro® is taken once a week. It typically starts at a low dose (e.g. 2.5 mg) and may be increased gradually based on tolerance and clinical goals. Store Mounjaro® pens in the fridge (2°C to 8°C). Once opened or if travelling, pens can be kept at room temperature (below 30°C) for up to 21 days.
How long can I use Mounjaro®?
The clinical team will review your weight with every order to ensure this product is working for you. When you have used your highest tolerated dose for 6 months, we will review your progress. For us to continue prescribing Mounjaro® to you, you’ll need to have lost around 5% of your initial body weight. You are likely to be able to continue using it for up to two years with clinical guidance.
Can I get Mounjaro® on the NHS?
Mounjaro® is available on the NHS, but access is currently limited. It’s prescribed for people with type 2 diabetes who meet specific criteria, and is being gradually rolled out for weight management. Broad access is expected to expand over the next few years, but most people won’t be eligible just yet.

Can I get Mounjaro® from my pharmacy?
You can get Mounjaro® from a pharmacy, but only with a valid prescription. If you're eligible through the NHS, it can be dispensed at a standard prescription cost. Otherwise, you’ll need a private prescription, with prices typically ranging from £160 to £180 per month. Mounjaro® isn’t available over the counter.
